PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smooth motion of a planetary gear mechanism in a variable valve timing device having the planetary gear mechanism. SOLUTION: This variable timing device 6 includes an input member 31 interlocked with a crank shaft 3, and an output member 41 interlocked with a cam shaft 4. A planetary 51 includes a first gear 63 which is arranged in an eccentric state with respect to the input member 31 and the output member 41 and engaged with a drive gear 61, and a second gear 64 to be engaged with a driven gear 62. A carrier 52 is turnably supported by the input member 31, and supports the planetary 51 in an eccentric manner. An annular elastic member 55 is provided between the input member 31 and the carrier 52. The eccentricity ec provided by the carrier 52 is set to be larger than the standard eccentricity e necessary for the planetary gear mechanism.
