PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defoaming agent having an excellent balance between the property of defoaming an object to be defoamed (particularly, an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble polymer) and transparency in the object to be defoamed (particularly, the aqueous solution containing the water-soluble polymer). SOLUTION: The defoaming agent contains the polyoxyalkylene compound shown by formula (1): R<SP>1</SP>ä-(OA<SP>1</SP>)x(OA<SP>2</SP>)y-O-Q}s and the polyoxyalkylene compound shown by formula (2) (in formulae (1) and (2), R<SP>1</SP>is a reactive residual group of an active hydrogen compound; OA<SP>1</SP>and OA<SP>2</SP>are each oxyalkylene; x is 1-200; y is 1-200; s is 1-6; Q is an acyl group or a hydrogen atom; R<SP>2</SP>is a reactive residual group of an active hydrogen compound; OA<SP>3</SP>is oxyalkylene; X is the group shown by -CH<SB>2</SB>OR<SP>3</SP>or -R<SP>3</SP>(wherein R<SP>3</SP>is a monovalent hydrocarbon group); m is 1-300; p is 1-6; n is 0-5 (p>n)).
