A fused quartz or quartz glass storage case comprises a tube 1 with at least one flat face 2 which has one or more portions 3 removed and the cages formed with slots 5 to receive thin discs, plates, wire &c. 8. In one embodiment, Fig. 1 and Fig. 4 (not shown), two or more portions 3 are removed and the slots 5 lie in the longitudinal direction of the case. In another embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), only one portion (3<SP>1</SP>) is removed and the slots (5) lie transversely of the case. The underside of the tube may be a curve, Fig. 6 (not shown), or shaped as in Fig. 3. Handles 6 are attached at each end to the flat face 2. The slots (5) in cross-bars 4 and (4<SP>1</SP>) according to Fig. 1 or to Fig. 4 (not shown), may also be in the form of grooves extending over the width of the crossbar.
