Disclosed is a water retarder for a vehicle. The disclosed water retarder for a vehicle is connected to the cooling system of an engine and generates braking force by the resistance of engine coolant. The water retarder may include an engine coolant chamber which has a predetermined inner space and allows the inflow and outflow of engine coolant, first and second rotors which face each other in the inner space of the engine coolant chamber and are installed to rotate in opposite directions, a water pump which is driven by the rotational force of a propeller shaft connected to a transmission and supplies engine coolant to the coolant chamber, and a gear assembly which connects the propeller shaft to the first and second rotors by a gear and connects one of either the first rotor or second rotor to the water pump by a gear. |
