The invention relates to a method of controlling an inductor-based switching-mode DC-DC converter (100, 101) comprising an inductor (L), a first and a second switching element (S1, S2) and operating in a discontinuous conduction mode, the method comprising: in each conversion cycle, first, turning on the first switching element (S1), while maintaining the second switching element (S2) in off state, thereby increasing the current (IL) through the inductor; second, turning off said first switching element (S1), while maintaining the second switching element (S2) in off state; third, detecting when a voltage signal (VC) at one connection node of the inductor (L) reaches a first threshold value for the first time after the start (TS) of the conversion cycle, and triggered by said first threshold value detection, turning on the second switching element (S2), while maintaining the first switching element (S1) in off state, thereby decreasing the inductor current (IL); fourth, detecting when said voltage signal (VC) reaches a second threshold value, and triggered by said second threshold value detection, turning off the second switching element (S2), while maintaining the first switching element (S1) in off state; and fifth, maintaining the first and the second switching element (S1, S2) in off state until the end of the conversion cycle. The invention also relates to an inductor-based switching-mode DC-DC converter (100, 101) and to an electronic system comprising a DC-DC converter according to an embodiment of the invention. |
