The method involves requesting an identification code for payment transaction by an e-commerce provider (26) or Internet payment machine (21) from a background system (22). The code is transmitted to the e-commerce provider or the payment machine. The code and/or payment request is transmitted to a user (20) by the e-commerce provider or the payment machine, and confirmation of payment is sent to the background system by the payment machine. The payment between the payment machine and the background system and between the background system and acquiring account is cleared.
