1284767 Steam sterilizer H P BARANOWSKI 4 Aug 1969 [2 Aug 1968] 38870/69 Heading A5G A double-jacketed, closed circuit, steam sterilizer comprises a sterilization chamber 1 surrounded by a steam jacket 2 and 3 which, during sterilization, is filled partly with steam 4 and partly with water, which may be heated by the heater 5. The steam-filled space 4 communicates with the chamber 1 via pipe 9 and with a closed water container 8 via pipes 6 and 7 and the associated metering pump 14. The chamber I also communicates with container 8 via a 2-branched pipe system 10, a two-way valve 11 connecting the chamber and container either via branch 10a, which contains a cooling device 13, or via branch 10b, which includes a thermostatic cut-off valve 12 arranged to close the connection when the temperature of sterilization (e.g. 138‹C) is reached. In operation, valve 11 is set to open branch 10b and heating is begun when the steam flowing therethrough reaches the correct temperature, valve 12 closes. At completion of sterilization, the valve 15 in pipe 9 is closed and branch pipe 10a is opened (10b then being closed). Steam then passes from the chamber 1 to the space in container 8 and the pressure is equalized in chamber, jacket and container. Modifications are described with reference to Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), in which the controls are suitably grouped for manual operation (Fig. 3) and in which there is a simplified connection between the water-container and the lower (water-containing) portion of the jacket (Fig. 2). |
