The present invention relates to a system and a method for providing social relationship information of users of various communication terminals, more particularly, to a technology for grouping acquaintances of a user by analyzing contact logs with acquaintances through a communication network and for providing a social network service such as game, news feed, information sharing, et cetera based on the group information. A social relationship information providing system according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: an acquaintance information storage unit for storing information of acquaintances who the user contact through a communication network; a contact log storage unit for collecting and storing communication contact logs with the acquaintances of the user; a relationship index calculation unit for calculating a social relationship index by analyzing the communication contact logs; and a group information management unit for generating group information of the acquaintances based on the calculated social relationship index and for providing the generated group information to a social network server or an application. The communication contact logs of the user with the acquaintances include a number of contact times, contact frequency, contact time, the amount of used data, et cetera for contact types such as voice/video call, text message transfer, file transfer, scheduling reference, et cetera. An analysis of the logs can be based on a ranking method which reflects a weighting factor or a certain pattern analysis algorithm.
