PURPOSE: A collision safety device and a control method for the same are provided to improve the safety performance of a vehicle by effectively absorbing collision energy through the appropriate deformation of superstrength vehicle components. CONSTITUTION: A collision safety device comprises a deformation component (3), a collision detection unit (5), an electric current supply unit (7), and a controller (9). The deformation component makes up a part of a vehicle. The deformation component includes a deformation requiring part which requires absorbing collision energy by being deformed upon a collision. The collision detection unit detects the collision of the vehicle. The electric current supply unit electrifies the deformation part. The controller controls the electric current supply unit according to the signal of the collision detection unit and electrifies the deformation requiring part. |
