The present invention refers to the use of the silymarin standardized extract obtained from silybum marianum solved in a pharmaceutically acceptable medium, for elaborating a drug intended to treat neurodegenerative diseases, specifically evaluated in the murine model MPTP; the experimental approach of the present invention defines the potential of the SM for preventing, reducing symptoms and reversion of the neurodegenerative process in neurodegenerative diseases.
