596033 A process for manufacturing a cold rolled, low carbon, welded tube is disclosed. The process includes: strip cutting and forming as per the desired final tube size; subjecting the formed strip to high frequency induction welding along the seam to produce a hollow. An induction welding coil in the proximity of the hollow induces a magnetic field that is concentrated on the open seam by an impeder disposed inside the hollow. The open seam is fused via the induction welding coil to complete the welding process to produce the hollow; heat treating the hollow; cold rolling the hollow between cam shaped profiled rolls and a mandrel that is disposed inside the hollow. The hollow and the mandrel are rotated about the longitudinal axis as the hollow advances between the said profiled rolls and the mandrel is then moved back and the process is repeated for next segment of the hollow; The process results in a reduction in energy consumption, and at the same time enhances the quality of the resulting tubes with improved dimensional stability, closeness of tolerance, reduced thickness variation, concentricity and reduction in material wastage.
|
