[Also in Division B2] Apparatus for washing a bulk tank comprises a rotatable spraying device 14 suspended inside the tank by a drive coupling 60 which imparts rotary motion to the spraying device 14 while supplying liquid thereto, the coupling including a housing 62 in which is mounted a rotatable sleeve 66 connected at its lower end to the spraying device and at its upper end to a driving device and also including an inlet port 64 through which cleaning liquid is supplied to the spraying device. The spraying device which may comprise a pair of hollow semi-circular members 42, 44 mounted on a perforated portion of a pipe 30 in a plane common with the longitudinal axis of the pipe 30 and having a plurality of regularly spaced spray apertures around their arced peripheral portions is connected to the sleeve 66 by releasable coupling device 58, 136, the portion 58 being rigidly secured to the sleeve 66 which is provided with apertures 80 in communication with the inlet port 64. The sleeve 66 which is closed at its upper end by a plug 82 and connected to the driving device by a spindlereceiving socket 90 is supported by bearings 70, 72 for rotation in the housing 62. The pipe 30 may be provided with agitating paddles 50 and with a spray nozzle 34 at the end of the pipe remote from the drive coupling 60. When a liquid such as milk is stored in the tank (10) (Fig. 1, not shown) the pipe 30 is rotated so that the paddles 50 agitate the stored liquid. When cleaning of the tank is to be effected the tank is emptied of stored liquid and washing liquid is supplied from a supply (18) via the inlet port 64 to the spray device 14 which is rotatably driven via the sleeve 66, liquid sprayed on to the interior of the tank being returned to the supply (18) via a conduit (20).</p> |
