PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide filter element capable of suppressing the decrease in the filtration flow rate.SOLUTION: There is provided a filter element 10 which is mounted in a backwashing type filtration apparatus and filters a fluid flowing through the apparatus, the filter element comprises: a filter medium 11 which is formed in a hollow cylindrical shape both ends of which are penetrated; an upper lid part 12 for closing the upper end part of the filter medium 11; a guide rod 13 which is attached to the upper lid part 12 and extends from the upper end part to the lower end part of the filter medium 11 in a tube of the filter medium 11; an upper hole 12a penetrating through the upper lid part 12; and a valve body 14 which is slidably supported by the guide rod 13 and is moved along the guide rod 13 by pressure from a fluid flowing in the tube of the filter medium 11 to open and close the upper hole 12a.
