PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection-type picture display device that suppresses reduction in contrast due to black floating when used in an illumination-lowered room and the like.SOLUTION: A projection-type picture display device comprises: a first lens array that has a plurality of lens cell regions dividing emergent light from a light source into a plurality of light beams; a second lens array that has a plurality of lens cell regions through which an emergent light beam from the first lens array passes; a convergent lens that converges the emergent light beam from the second lens array; a display element; a projection lens; and a light blocking unit that blocks the light beam from the first lens array to the second lens array. The light blocking unit blocks the light beam of at least a part of all lens cell regions excluding a lens cell region in contact with an optical axis of a plurality of rectangle lens cell regions of the second lens array, and a light blocking region in the lens cell region in contact with the optical axis is made smaller than that in any of the lens cell regions excluding the lens cell region contacting with the optical axis.
