1,226,026. Apparatus for sterilizing &c. filled containers. STORK AMSTERDAM N.V. 5 Nov., 1968 [6 Nov., 1967], No. 52323/68. Heading A2D. [Also in Division B8] An apparatus for the pasteurization or sterilization of commodities packed in containers, which comprises a treatment space 1 and a conveyer 2 consisting of an endless belt or chain provided with carriers 9 for the containers, a substantially continuous drive being connected to the conveyer 2, the latter passing through a loading and/or unloading station 16, 17 situated outside the treatment space, is characterized in that driving means are provided at the location of the station 16, 17 with which the conveyer 2 can be periodically slowed down or brought to a standstill and subsequently advanced at a faster rate, and in that on each side of the station 16, 17 means are provided for forming and temporarily accumulating, and for giving out again, downwardly hanging loops of the conveyer 2. The main continuous drive to the conveyer 2 is applied through one or more of sprockets 11. Driving wheels 10, in conjunction with guide wheels 15 hanging in loops 14 of the conveyer 2, control the travel of the latter through the station 16, 17 and provide for its temporary accumulation. The carriers 9, Fig. 2, are each provided with four compartments A-D for accommodating rows of containers, and are pivotally supported on the conveyer 2, i.e. on chains 8, so that they can be rotated to enable each compartment to be unloaded (and loaded) in turn when in its lowermost position. Unloading is effected by an endless belt or chain positioned below the compartment C to be unloaded, an upstanding abutment pushing the containers out of the carrier 9. Loading is effected by a similar endless conveyer with the aid of a bridge plate.
|
