Provided is a wavelength conversion element provided with a periodic polarization inversion structure for converting the wavelength of a fundamental wave to generate a high frequency. The wavelength conversion element is provided with a ferroelectric substrate on which a periodic polarization inversion structure is formed, in which the longitudinal-pole inverted boundary of the periodic polarization inversion structure is inclined with respect to the normal to the top surface when the ferroelectric substrate is viewed from a cross-section that is parallel to the propagation direction of the fundamental wave and parallel to the normal to the top surface of the ferroelectric substrate.
