The system has a battery (10) provided with battery cells (20) i.e. lithium ion cells, and a main circuit (30) for supplying a load (40). A shunt (50) and a pyrotechnic fuse (60) are serially merged into the main circuit. Select lines (70a, 70b) are connected to the fuse and an input and an output of the shunt. A non-linear passive electrical component i.e. Zener diode, is integrated into the select lines. The load is merged into the main circuit and incorporates a power unit (M) for a motor car. An independent claim is also included for a method for interrupting supply of a consumer by passive activation of a bound into a main circuit of a battery system.
