PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soft magnetic alloy for magnetic recording achieving, in particular, saturation magnetic flux density, non-crystallinity (amorphous nature) and corrosion resistance, and excellent in thermal shock resistance, and to provide a sputtering target material and a magnetic recording medium using the soft magnetic alloy.SOLUTION: The soft magnetic alloy for magnetic recording contains, in at. ratio, 100Fe/(Fe+Co):0-70% and 10-30% of one or two kinds of elements of the following group (A), and includes balance Co and inevitable impurity.
