[Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] A tanker vehicle for supplying or withdrawing fuel, lubricating oil, cooling fluid &c. to or from aircraft &c. is provided with one or more hollow booms rotatable in both horizontal and vertical planes and forming a conduit for the fuel etc.; a boom and tank may be provided for each such liquid. In a vehicle provided with two booms, a housing 8 is welded to the tank and supports a bearing shell 9 connected by pipe 11 to the control valves and pump, the shell 9 having roller or ball bearings 13, 14, and spaced packers 20 to support and seal-off a T-shaped hollow spigot 15 with one or more openings '19; an adjustable annulus 40, pressed by springs 39, bears on the spigot head through a friction lining 41. Hollow cheeks 18 are mounted on the spigot head and support hollow trunnions 22 carrying the boom 26 which may terminate in a flexible hose and nozzle; hydraulic means or spaced adjustable springs 34 bearing on a crosshead 33, act on the boom through a link 29 and tailpiece 30 and preferably more than counterbalance the weight of the boom. In the raised position of the boom, the tailpiece may engage the spigot shell 9 through intermeshing teeth to prevent swaying. The tank vehicle may carry a hook to hold the boom in lowered position, and cleats and a bracket for stowing the hose pipe and nozzle. |
