PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool in which a hard coating layer exhibits excellent chipping resistance, peeling resistance and wearing resistance in a high speed intermittent cutting of carbon steel, stainless steel and the like.SOLUTION: There is provided a surface-coated cutting tool in which at least a hard coating layer composed of a lower layer and an upper layer is formed on a surface of a tool base body, wherein the lower layer is composed of a crystalline AlOlayer having an average layer thickness of 0.5 to 4.0 μm, which is formed by a sol-gel method, and the upper layer is composed of a crystalline AlOlayer having an average layer thickness of 0.2 to 3.0 μm or an amorphous SiOlayer. Recessed parts are formed on the lower layer, an average depth of the recessed parts is 0.4 to 4.0 μm, the average aspect ratio of the recessed parts is 1.0 to 40, and the average horizontal spacing between the recessed parts is 0.5 to 20 μm. |
