PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge. for preventing and treating renal failure is provided to prevent or treat aging, cancer, cerebrovascular diseases, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating chronic renal failure contains a water extract of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge. as an active ingredient. The pharmaceutical composition contains an extract of 20-26 wt% of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge., 9-15 wt% of Atractylodes japonica, 9-15 wt% of Polyporus umbellatus Fries, 9-15 wt% of Poria cocos wolf, 12-18 wt% of Pinellia ternata, 6-12 wt% of Coptidis Rhizoma, and 12-18 wt% of Rheum palmatum.
