<p>The provision of a molybdenum-containing composition: (A) which can be used in various types of applications, for example, as an additive in admixture with a lubricant in which it functions as a friction modifier; and (B) which can be prepared from a reactive mixture which includes: (1 ) a glycerol monoester; (2) an acid amide in which the chain length of the acid portion of the amide contains about 8 to about 28 carbon atoms; and (3) a molybdenum-containing compound in which the oxidation state of Mo is +6; and a method for preparing the composition; and the use of the composition, for example, as an additive in a lubricant, for example, a lubricating oil or a grease, in which it functions as a friction modifier, preferably in the absence of little or no sulfur.</p> |
