PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for carrier assignment, configuration and switching for multicarrier wireless communications.SOLUTION: A method for multicarrier wireless communications comprises: configuring a set of DL component carriers and a set of UL component carriers according to configuration information; transmitting UL communications over at least one UL component carrier from the configured set of UL component carriers; receiving DL communications over at least one DL component carrier from the configured set of DL component carriers; performing a unidirectional handover to switch the UL communications from the at least one UL component carrier on a first eNB to a new UL component carrier on a second eNB according to instructions to switch the UL communications to the new UL component carrier; and continuing to receive the DL communications over the at least one DL component carrier on the first eNB.
