A method and system for processing a bearing component (39) to extend its useful life include using the component (39) in the bearing assembly (1) for a portion of its initial useful life and then removing the component (39) from the bearing assembly (1). The surface of the removed component (39) is subjected to isotropic finishing, after which a protective wear coating is applied to the surface of the component (39). Once processed, the used bearing component (39) is reinstalled for use.
