PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excite a lot of surface plasmons on a plasmon generator.SOLUTION: A thermally-assisted magnetic recording head includes a waveguide having a core 20 and a cladding, and a plasmon generator 40. The core 20 has an evanescent light generating surface 20b. The plasmon generator 40 has a plasmon exciting part 40a opposed to the evanescent light generating surface 20b. Assuming a virtual straight line L that passes internally through the core 20 and that is parallel to the direction of travel of light propagating through the core 20, at least part of the evanescent light generating surface 20b and at least part of the plasmon exciting part 40a are both inclined relative to the virtual straight line L such that the distance from the virtual straight line L decreases with increasing proximity to a medium facing surface 60. |
