METHOD FOR CULTURING SPORE-FORMING BACTERIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an experimental model to reproduce infection in the human intestinal tract with sufficient spore formation and toxin production in the coexistence of Caco2-cells being a widely used model of the human intestinal tract.SOLUTION: The method is to culture Clostridium perfringens in the coexistence of Caco2 cells using as a modified DMEM (Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium) in which the sugar source is partly or entirely replaced by soluble starch with addition of one or more compounds selected from a group consisting of cholic acid, deoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, taurocholic acid, glycochenodeoxycholic acid and a salt thereof.
