The method involves determining output charge states of battery cells (2, 3). The output charge state of one of the battery cells is assigned to a charge amount (Q) requiring preset target charge. The assigned charge amount of the battery cells is added or removed. The required charge amount is determined depending on properties of the battery cell representing the output charge state. Open-circuit voltage of the battery cell is assigned to the required charge amount. The required charge amount is removed from the output charge states with an association matrix. The charge amount is in a form of an electric current. An independent claim is also included a device for compensation of load differences between battery cells.
