The present invention relates to a target detection apparatus and a method and more specifically, to a target detection apparatus and a method capable of determining whether any one of the target detection apparatuses detects an error by using two or more target detection apparatuses having sensors. The target detection apparatus comprises: a first target detection apparatus detecting a target and outputting the detected information; a second target detection apparatus detecting the target separated from the first target detection apparatus and outputting the detection information; and a control part for determining whether the second target detection apparatus detects an error by the target detection information outputted from the first target detection apparatus and the second target detection apparatus respectively.
