PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve supply of reactants to a membrane electrode assembly.SOLUTION: Gas diffusion layers 24 and 26 are positioned on two respective sides of a membrane electrode assembly 22. A first reactant supply plate 30 is located adjacent to the gas diffusion layer 24. The reactant supply plate 30 has a porous body that allows a liquid to pass through a body thereof. Ribs 32 and reactant flow channels 34 are arranged so as to supply reactants through the gas diffusion layer 24 to the membrane electrode assembly 22. The porous reactant supply plate 30 has a vapor permeable layer 36 on at least part thereof. The vapor permeable layer 36 prevents the liquid from moving between the porous reactant supply plate 30 and the membrane electrode assembly 22. The vapor permeable layer 36 allows vapor, such as water vapor, to pass therethrough. |
