PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a paper separation device that conveys a recording medium with low stiffness such as thin paper without trouble, and prevents formation of streak images on the surface of a recording medium caused by attachment of toner.SOLUTION: A paper separation device is to be arranged on the downstream side in a paper conveyance direction of a nip part formed by two rotating bodies contacting with each other, and includes a single or a plurality of separation members with the leading edges arranged in parallel to an axial direction of the rotating bodies. The separation members each include a paper rubbing surface having a groove formed thereon extending in a direction intersecting with the paper conveyance direction; the surface roughness of the paper rubbing surface is set to 1.5 μm or less in view of the arithmetic average roughness, 10.0 μm or less in view of the maximum height, or 7.2 μm or less in view of the ten-point average roughness; and the height of convex burr at the leading edge of a paper conveyance surface of the separation member is 25 μm or less. |
