The system has a feed head (1) for variable delivery of bulk material conveyed on a conveyer (10). The feed head is moved between a retracted position and an extended position (II). Fixed supporting rollers (14) at the system and movable supporting rollers (15) with the feed head are arranged for guidance of the conveyer. The fixed supporting rollers and the movable supporting rollers exhibit a common height level in a position of the feed head. A band lifting mechanism (16) is provided for guiding the conveyer with the partial driven feed head for bypassing a driving path (17). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a feed head of a conveyer system.
