An apparatus for sensing the weight of a vehicle comprises: a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensor unit which senses the pressure, temperature, and position of a tire; an event sensing unit which senses an event; a control unit which stores a sensing value inputted from the TPMS sensor unit before an event sensed by the event sensing unit is inputted, receives the inputted sensing value sensed after the event input from the TPMS sensor unit when the event is sensed and inputted, calculates a change amount by comparing with a stored sensing value, and converts the calculated change amount into a weight; and a display unit which outputs the weight converted by the control unit. Provided in the present invention are the apparatus for sensing the weight of a vehicle and the sensing method thereof, which calculate changes in the weight of a vehicle using tire pneumatic information sensed by the TPMS and display the calculation results.
