1,200,987. Quaternary salts of dialkylamino acetic acid esters. BP CHEMICALS (UK) Ltd. 1 May, 1969 [29 May, 1968], No. 25610/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] The invention comprises quaternary compounds of dialkylamino acetic acid esters of the formula wherein R 1 represents an alkyl, cycloaliphatic, aralkyl, phenyl or a substituted phenyl group of formula in which R<SP>1</SP> represents an acyclic hydrocarbon residue or halogen and R<SP>II</SP>, R<SP>III</SP>, R<SP>IV</SP> and R<SP>V</SP> represent H or halogen, or R<SP>I</SP> and R<SP>V</SP> represent acyclic hydrocarbon residues and R<SP>II</SP>, R<SP>III</SP> and R<SP>IV</SP> represent H or halogen or R<SP>I</SP> and R<SP>V</SP> and any one of R<SP>II</SP>, R<SP>III</SP> and R<SP>IV</SP> represent acyclic hydrocarbon residues with the remainder being H or halogen; R 2 and R 3 represent alkyl radicals; R 4 represents a benzyl or chloro- or bromo-benzyl group; and A(-) is anion of valency n. In examples, the compounds are prepared by reacting a dialkylamine with a chloro-acetic acid ester and quaternating the product with benzyl chloride. |
