A soft toy, typically but not exclusively a doll, comprises a body portion 12 having a hinged flap 20, the flap openable to expose a book-receiving portion 24 having features to removably secure a book (100, figure 5) therein. One cover of the book is removably securable to an inside 26 of the flap 20 and the other cover of the book is removably securable to the body portion 12. The arrangement enables the secured book to be read in situ within the book-receiving portion 24 when the flap is open. The book may be removed and replaced by another book (100', figure 5). Preferably, the toy includes an accessible cavity (50) for storing one or more of the books (100; 100') when not secured in the book-receiving portion. The arrangement encourages early reading through fostering an emotional bond between a child reader and the soft toy and, in turn, characters in the books. |
