A fishing reel body has a magnetic spool 11 and a side cover 13 which is fitted with a magnetic deceleration controller 30 for controlling the rotational speed of the spool, e.g. during casting. The deceleration controller 30 comprises a mounting tube 31 mounted to the side cover, a moving shaft 32 threadably received within the mounting tube 31, a magnetic assembly 35 mounted to the end of the moving shaft 32 and a manually operated switching button 36 for moving the shaft and magnetic assembly toward or away from the magnetic spool. The magnetic assembly 35 may comprise a plurality of magnets 352 that are mounted on a base 350 and face towards the magnetic spool 11. Preferably the base 350 of the magnetic assembly is guided by guide bars [340, Figure 3] mounted to the side cover 13. |
