592,243. Air-heating furnaces. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Feb. 5, 1945, Nos. 2912 and 2913. Convention dates, Jan. 5, 1944. [Class 64 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] The output of the air turbine in steam and air power plants of the type claimed in Specifications 562,155 and 567,595 is increased by mixing hot gases with the combustion gases after the latter have passed through the boiler. The boiler 1, Fig. 1, has an air heater 12 by means of which the air from the blower 14 is heated before use in the turbine 13. To increase the temperatures on the gas side of the air heater without an increase of the temperatures through the boiler, hot gases are taken from the furnace 3 through the pipe 19 and mixed with the combustion gases after the latter have passed through the boiler 1. A valve 20 is used to control the temperatures. In a modification, the air for the air turbine is heated by a separate combustion chamber and the temperatures on the gas side of the air heater are controlled by mixing with the gases from this combustion chamber gases taken from the duct leaving the boiler of an adjacent boiler plant. Specification 569,441, [Group XXVI], also is referred to.
