[Also in Divisions D1-D2] An oil- and water-repellent copolymer consists of (a) from 75 to 98% by weight of units derived from one or more monomer of the formula R f CH 2 CH 2 O 2 CCH=CH 2 in which R f is a perfluoro-alkyl group of from four to fourteen carbon atoms; (b) from 25 to 2 % by weight of units derived from one or more monomers selected from (1) ROCH=CH 2 in which R is X(CF 2 ) n -CH 2 - or (CF 3 ) 2 CH- where X is F or H and n is one or two, and (2) R<SP>1</SP>OCF=CF 2 in which R<SP>1</SP> is F(CF 2 ) m - or R where m is one, two or three; and (c) from 0 to 5% by weight of units derived from one or more monomers selected from: (1) CH 2 =CR<SP>2</SP>CONHR<SP>3</SP>OH, (2) CH 2 =CR<SP>2</SP>CO 2 R<SP>4</SP>OH, (3) CH 2 =CR<SP>2</SP>CO 2 R<SP>5</SP> and (4) any mixture of two or more monomers selected from (c)(1), (c)(2) and (c)(3) in which R<SP>2</SP> is H or CH 3 , R<SP>3</SP> is an alkylene group of one to four carbon atoms, R<SP>4</SP> is an alkylene group of two to four carbon atoms, and R<SP>5</SP> is an epoxyalkyl group of three or four carbon atoms; the total weight per cent of units (a), (b) and, when present, (c) being 100%. In the examples the copolymers are prepared by aqueous dispersion polymerization in the presence of octadecyltrimethyl ammonium chloride and azobis- (isobutyramidine) dihydrochloride, and textile and paper treating compositions prepared containing a dispersion of a compound of formula aqueous zinc nitrate solution, where x + y = 15, tris-(methoxymethyl)-tris- (behenoyloxymethyl) melamine, paraffin wax, dimethyl dimethyl fatty amine acetates, triazine-formaldehyde condensate, sodium acetate, acetic acid and long chain alkyl pyridinium chloride.</p> |
