<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a unit and a method for reading barcodes, capable of accurately detecting the barcode attachment position on an object to be detected, using a line width value for acquiring barcode information, without having to install additional unit or configuration. <P>SOLUTION: With the provision of a light-emitting device for emitting light and a photodetecting device for receiving reflected light from the object to be detected, having the barcode attached thereto, the barcode information within the scanning range of the light-emitting device is obtained, based on a light signal received on the photodetecting device. By the acquisition of the line width value of the barcode existent in the scanning range, it is decided whether the barcode information has been read in a normal manner. When it is decided the information is read normally, based on the line width, information is obtained, with regard to the positions of the start point and the end point, in a range in which the barcode information could be read; and the relative positions of the start point and the end point in the scanning range are calculated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
