[Class 69 (i)] A- liquid container consists of a shell, each wall of which comprises a plurality of welded plates 22 built around a structure of hollow intersecting spars, secured to each other at their points of intersection. Spars passing through apertures in the shell are marginally welded at 29 and act as baffle plates to prevent surging. The spars 28 are perforated, whilst the ends projecting through the shell are sealed by plates 32 welded to the shell at 33. In order that the plates 32 should be flush with the surface of the shell,-the latter is recessed and a pad 29A inserted. Additional rigidity is obtained by corrugating the shell. Inspection covers 36 and fuel pipes 37 are provided. Two spars are extended beyond the tank, their ends forming lifting lugs 35.
