摘要 Resins are prepared by reacting (a) a hydrolysed copolymer of a plurality of copolymerizable materials, one of which is a vinyl organic ester having a single CH2=C< grouping and another of which is a divinyl aryl compound, with (b) an aldehyde, ketone, or a mixture of an aldehyde and a ketone. The copolymer of vinyl ester and divinyl aryl compound may be prepared by mixing and copolymerizing, in the presence or absence of a solvent or a dispersion medium, by the use of heat and/or light and/or a catalyst such as peroxides, per compounds, ozone and ozonides. Specified acids for the vinyl ester are acetic, chloroacetic, propionic, bromopropionic, butyric, isobutyric, valeric, caproic, heptylic, caprylic, nonylic, capric, palmitic, benzoic, toluic, phenyl acetic, chloro-benzoic, cyclohexanoic, cyclopentanoic and also mono-ethyl phthalate, mono-methyl succinate and diethyl citrate. Specified divinyl compounds are divinyl benzenes, toluenes, xylenes, ethyl benzenes, naphthalenes, chlorobenzenes and divinylphenyl vinyl ether. The copolymer may be hydrolysed by heating with water and a catalyst such as a strong alkali, a strong acid or an acid salt and then acetalized and/or ketalized. It is preferred, however, to conduct both these steps simultaneously and this is preferably done in a liquid medium such as acetic acid, propionic acid, ethyl and higher liquid alcohols, and mixtures of liquid alcohols, acids and esters, preferably at temperatures of 60 DEG to 100 DEG C. Specified aldehydes, ketones and compounds forming these during the reaction are formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, paraldehyde, trioxymethylene, acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, butyraldehyde, acrolein, methacrolein, crotonaldehyde, benzaldehyde, cinnamic aldehyde, anisaldehyde, para - methoxyphenyl acetaldehyde, furfural, acetone, chloracetone, methyl vinyl ketone, divinyl ketone, methyl ethyl ketone, aceto-phenone, benzophenone, quinone, tetrahydroquinone, benzil, benzoyl acetone, acetyl dibenzyl methane, benzal acetophenone, mesityl oxide, shogaol, cyclohexanone, vanillin, zingerone, and alpha-oxy-tetrahydronaphthalene. Other reactants which may be present during the treatment of the hydrolysed copolymer include phenols, hydroxy aromatic esters and ethers, mono- and polyhydric alcohols, amides and sulphonamides, while substances which may be present either during or after this treatment include hydrolysed wood products, natural gums and resins, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl acetate and polyvinyl acetals. The final product may have added to it phthalate esters, phosphate esters, glycol diesters, esters of furfural and tetrahydrofurfural alcohols, the amide esters of alkanlamines, and the semiamides of polyesters. Also present may be dyes, pigments, opacifiers, mould lubricants, waxes, fillers, solvents, driers, oils and stabilizing and inhibiting agents including phenolic bodies, amines, alkanolamines and amides.
