摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that since an external resonator laser of conventional technology needs to have two parameters of an oscillation wavelength and a phase adjusted simultaneously and continuously fast so as to make a wavelength sweep fast over a wide band while avoiding a mode hop, a complicated mechanism is necessary for the adjustment, and the problem that a waveguide type distribution feedback type (DFB) laser etc., other than the external resonator laser does not have wide-band wavelength variable performance equal to that of the external resonator type laser yet because of structural restrictions. SOLUTION: An external resonator type wavelength variable light source including a diffraction grating is characterized in having a refractive index modulation part and a deflection part which are controlled with different control voltages on an optical path between a semiconductor laser part and the diffraction grating. Setting of a wavelength variable band and conditioning of a mode hop-free oscillation can be achieved independently with control voltages E<SB POS="POST">1</SB>, E<SB POS="POST">2</SB>of the refractive index modulation part and deflection part.
