A motor vehicle steering arrangement comprises a handlebar 1 mounted on the steering shaft (whose rotational axis is at 0) and having a fixed stop member 8 against which and against a roller 3 pivoted to the vehicle at 2 bear, in the neutral or straight ahead position, a pair of levers 5, 5<SP>1</SP> connected to springs 7, 71 respectively. A steering movement of the handlebar extends one or other of the springs 7, 7<SP>1</SP>. In a modification, Fig. 3, the stop member 8<SP>1</SP> comprises an eccentric pivoted to the handlebar at 9 and rotatable by means of a crank 10 connected through rods 11, 11<SP>1</SP> to handles 13, centring springs 12, 12<SP>1</SP> being provided. In this embodiment, the bias against rotation of the handlebar may be varied by rotating the handles 13 relatively to the handlebar, this movement itself producing a slight steering movement during which the springs 7, 7<SP>1</SP> and 12, 12<SP>1</SP> act in opposition. The pivots 14 and connections 15 may be near the centres of the handles 13 to minimize the steering effect due to the weight of the driver's arms upon the handles 13. The device may be associated with power steering apparatus. |
