PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass fiber for reinforcing rubber, the fiber produced by applying a coating layer on strands prepared by bundling glass fiber filaments and the fiber imparting excellent dimensional stability, heat resistance, water resistance and oil resistance to a transmission belt when the glass fiber is embedded in a hydrogenated nitrile rubber to prepare the transmission belt, and to provide a transmission belt particularly excellent in oil resistance. SOLUTION: The glass fiber 3 for reinforcing rubber is produced by forming a primary coating layer on strands prepared by bundling a plurality of glass fiber filaments, and applying a secondary coating layer thereon. The primary coating layer contains a phenol-formaldehyde condensate (A) selected from monohydroxybenzene-formaldehyde condensates or chlorophenol-formaldehyde condensates, a vinylpyridine-styrene-butadiene copolymer (B), and a hydrogenated nitrile rubber 2 (C).
