<p>A component including a structural supercapacitor, the supercapacitor comprising a first 12 and second 14 electrode and a separator structure 16 which separates the two electrodes 12,14 and contains a fluidic electrolyte 17; the first 12 and second 14 electrode structures are each formed from a composite material which includes at least one ply of electrically conductive fibres 12a,14a and a binder matrix 12b,14b; the separator 16 comprising at least one ply of non-conducting fibre 16a, where the supercapacitor is formed to be structurally inseparable from the rest of the component. Also disclosed is a method for forming said component. The separator 16 may be formed of glass-fibre 16a in a binder matrix 16b. One or more of the electrodes 12,14 may also contain a porous additive, where the additive may further be electrically conductive. The binder matrix for either electrode 12,14 or the separator 16 may be a polymer, ceramic or glass, more specifically the binder matrix may be epoxy resin. The component may be used in a panel on a vehicle, vessel or craft.</p> |
