1289585 Articulated railway cars AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc 24 March 1970 [7 April 1969] 14279/70 Heading B7L In a connector for connecting two sections of an articulated railway car in which a female member 22 having an open end cavity 23 is adapted to be secured to the end of one of the cars and a male member 20 is adapted to be secured to the end of the other car, the members are pivoted by a vertical cylindrical pin 32 extending through opening 30 in the female member and opening 52 in the male member and a pin bearing block having protrusions 62 is positioned in the opening 52 between a spherical inner surface 54 and the pin 32. The protrusions 62 abut the inner surface 64 of opening 52. The end spherical surface 50 of male member 20 abuts spherical surface 86 of a follower block 88 which has a shim 90 supported by ledges 96 and 98, and of a thickness to take up longitudinal slack. An annular boss 24 formed on the underside of female member 22 is received on the centre plate 26 of a truck bolster 28 and is located by a second pin 36 loosely received in an aperture 34 in the bottom of pin 32. A ring 48 in an annular recess 49 prevents the pin 32 from creeping up after assembly. A ring 78 having an outer spherical surface 79 seats in a recess 74 and has a planar top surface 80 to support male member 20. The radii of surfaces 76 and 79 are less than those of surfaces 50 and 86 to allow free rotation of male member 20. Drain holes 73 and 75 extend downwards and outwards from recess 74.
