An evaporation cooler for hot gases subsequently to be cleaned in a dry electrostatic precipitator comprises a cylindrical housing 1 with an upper gas inlet 2, a vertical gas passage and a lower part formed as a hopper 4, above the dust discharge 5 of which is arranged a troughlike channel 6 to which is attached the gas outlet 3 which is horizontal or inclined upwardly. The outlet may be of circular or rectangular crosssection.
