PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an aminothiophenealdehyde compound for industrially obtaining the aminothiophenealdehyde compound in good purity in a high yield from a thiophenealdehyde compound and a secondary amine compound, and to provide a Schiff base obtained as an intermediate in the method. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing the aminothiophenealdehyde compound includes obtaining the aminothiophenealdehyde compound represented by the general formula (3) by a substitution reaction between a thiophenealdehyde compound and a secondary amine compound, wherein a basic compound having an acid dissociation constant (pKa (25°C, aqueous solution)) of at least 10.8 is contained in a reaction liquid of the substitution reaction in an excess amount over the (chemical) equivalent to the thiophenealdehyde compound.
