The acceleration device (10) has an acceleration tube (12). A sabot (18) is comprised of a projectile holder (32) to receive a projectile (16) in the direction of acceleration (14). A sabot stopper (30) is provided for stopping the sabot. The acceleration tube is coupled with a pressure-generating device (34). The pressure generating device is comprised of two valves (50) for introducing a gas into a blowing chamber (54) which is formed behind the sabot in the acceleration tube.
