[Also in Division F2] A web-guiding roller has a plurality of axially movable outer members 5 defining the roller surface and arranged about an axially immov. able, rotatable inner member 1, the outer members 5 being in abutment one with another and with the inner member 1. All members may be of hexagonal cross-section, as shown in Fig. 2, or alternatively, circular in cross-section. Each end 6 of an outer member 5 comprises a cam follower which co-operates with a cam surface (8, Fig. 1) formed in a bush (3). For each revolution of the roller, each outer member 5 is axially reciprocated once by the cam surfaces. The individual outer members 5 can be axially shifted by the frictional contact of the web 7 passing obliquely thereover; in which case only a single cam surface (8) is required for returning each outer member 5 to its starting position. In (Figs. 3 and 4) a ring-shapedspacer (9) is provided through which the cam followers project. As an alternative, the outer members 5 can be shifted pneumatically, hydraulically or magnetically. Also, the outer members 5 can be returned to their starting positions by the force of gravity. |
