PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool with an extended tool life even in a cutting of difficult-to-cut materials such as metal titanium. SOLUTION: A throw-away tip 1 includes a base body 11 made of a cemented carbide, and includes intersection ridge lines between a rake face 3 and a flank face 7, serving as cutting edges 4, 5. The throw-away tip 1 includes a group of projections of a row of a plurality of projections 13 near the frond end cutting edge 4 of the rake face 3. Only the projections 13 are formed with an Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>layer 10a. The projections 13 receive a part of impact applied to the front end cutting edge 4, and prevent the chips from causing entire abutting, so as to suppress the increase of the cutting edge temperature. The Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>layer 10a is formed only on the projections 13, so as to ensure a high thermal conductivity of the portions other than the projections. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
